Fifth Sunday of Easter/A
Massimo Palombella

In today’s Gospel (Jn 14:1-12) Jesus calls himself “the way, the truth and the life”.
Giving the Lord the chance to be the backbone of our lives, the true and ultimate reference point for all our choices is a slow journey in which we learn to leave behind everything that weighs down our existence.
It is the Lord Himself who while leading us on this path, challenges us, and slowly and inexorably he brings to nothing all our false certainties. He gently and firmly leads us to the truth by taking us along His ways that are often different from those we had imagined.
Truly making room for the Lord in our lives is not a given, we must face our fears, go beyond the patterns that seemingly make us safe and stable. Leaving space for the Lord is what assures us “life in abundance”, what we all desire, what truly “fulfils” our existence.
The Alleluia verse for today’s celebration is taken from chapter 14 of the Gospel of John (Jn 14:6b, 9c) and reads as follows:
Ego sum via, veritas et vita, dicit Dominus; nemo venit ad Patrem nisi per me.
(I am the way, the truth and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father except through me).
The attached music is by myself. The live performance is by the Milan Cathedral Choir at the Chapter Celebration on 14 April 2024.
A blessed Sunday and heartfelt greetings.
