Eighteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time/C
Massimo Palombella

In today’s Gospel (Lk 12:13-21) Jesus once again clearly indicates where we must found our lives and, consequently, where the true value of our existence lies, namely on what we are and not on what we do or possess. To become essential and true persons as the Lord calls us to be, we learn slowly by knowing how to intelligently and wisely place what happens in our lives. Within a true and vital relationship with the Lord we become capable – not without effort – of placing suffering, metabolising separations, recognising and transforming our weaknesses into resources, turning our failures into opportunities. In essence, true relationship with the Lord enables us to initiate a healthy process that leads us to move further on, despite our difficulties and even our frequent rebellions, towards the truth of our identity, towards what is essential that represents the true quality of our life.
The Gradual for today’s celebration is taken from Psalm 33 (Ps 33:2-3) with the following text:
Benedicam Dominum in omni tempore:
semper laus eius in ore meo.
In Domino laudabitur anima mea:
audiant mansueti, et laetentur.
(I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul will boast in the Lord;
the humble shall hear and be glad).
The music attached, in Gregorian chant, is taken from the Graduale Triplex published in Solesmes in 1979. The music track can be found on YouTube, where there are no indications about the interpretation.
A blessed Sunday and heartfelt greetings.
