Solemnity of the Resurrection of the Lord

Massimo Palombella

Piero della Francesca, Resurrection, (1458-1474) Museo Civico, Sansepolcro

The Resurrection of Jesus is the fulfilment of his Incarnation.

The Resurrection of Jesus is the possibility that is given to us to “fulfil” our existence, to start that slow journey where, each of our unresolved, each of our “non-sense”, each of our sufferings finds its place. That slow journey that empowers us each day more and more to be ready for the encounter of our life where we will see God “face to face” and in Him, definitively, we will recognise ourselves in truth.

“It is ours who lay lifeless in the tomb, who rose on the third day, who ascended above all heights to the right hand of the majesty of the Father” (Leo the Great, Sermon 15 on the Passion of the Lord).

The Gradual of the Easter Day Mass is taken from Psalm 117 (Ps 117, 24. 1) with the following text:
“Hæc dies, quam fecit Dóminus:
exsultémus et lætémur in ea.

Vs. Confitémini Dómino, quóniam bonus:
quóniam in saéculum misericórdia ejus.”

(This is the day the Lord has made:
let us exult and rejoice in it.

Praise the Lord because he is good,
for his mercy is everlasting).

The attached music, in Gregorian Chant, is taken from the Graduale Triplex published in Solesmes in 1979. The interpretation is by the Choralschola der Wiener Hofburgkapelle conducted by Hubert Dopf.  The music track can be found on the CD ‘Gregorian Chant’ published by Universal International Music B.V. in 1997.

Happy Easter from the bottom of my heart.
