Solemnity of the Holy Trinity/B
Massimo Palombella
Today’s Celebration, focused on the identity of God, leads us to reflect on our identity as created in the ‘image of God’.
A God who is a relationship of love in freedom. And it is precisely freedom that makes us essentially in the image of God, that freedom through which, through our timely choices, we can develop our relationality, become able to recognise our deep need to be loved and to love.
It is through freedom that we slowly bring forth, through a kind of ablatio, that which truly belongs to us and which tells the truth of our identity.
The authentic relationship with the true God leads us to become the persons we can be, leads us to face our fears, to tell the truth to discover in us that identity that is ‘life in abundance’ because it is in the ‘image of God’.
The Communion antiphon for today’s celebration is taken from Chapter XXVIII of Matthew’s Gospel (Mt 28, 18. 19) with the following text:
“Data est mihi omnis potestas
in caelo et in terra, alleluia:
euntes, docete omnes gentes,
baptizantes eos in nomine Patris, et Filii,
et Spiritus Sancti, alleluia, alleluia”.
(All power has been given to me
in heaven and on earth, alleluia;
go therefore and teach all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, alleluia, alleluia).
The attached music, in Gregorian Chant, is taken from the Graduale Triplex published in Solesmes in 1979. The performance is by the Cantori Gregoriani conducted by Fulvio Rampi.
A blessed Sunday and heartfelt greetings.
